This view is about 5 miles from Valencia, CA off of Route 14 looking to the south. There are good hiking trails here and lots to explore.

Today, June 26, I drove from Valencia to a place called Placerita Canyon County Park. I planned on hiking there during the cooler evening but I found it closes at 5 pm. So I drove up the road a few miles and captured the view the mountains above from the road. While there some people suggested I visit Vasquez Rocks which is about 8 more miles drive.

After a short pleasant drive I arrived at the rocks which are really quite interesting. They are named after a bandit who used them for a hideout. The rocks are traversed by several hiking trails and horse trails some of which describe the geology and history of the area. It is also interesting to note that the Pacific Crest trail passes through here and also the rocks have been used as a backdrop for several Hollywood movies.

In fact soon after I arrived I met Ray, a sound supervisor from Santa Monica who was planning the making of a short movie at this site. The chief character is to be an American indian.

NEW!!  Now you can see the official site of the movie being made!  Here...

It's hard to tell from this next picture but I'm about 150 feet above the ground at the top of a rock pinnacle. It's a very steep but safe climb. This is a real nice spot to sit and take in the view and watch the shadows stretch along the ground as the sun sets.

On top of the Rocks.

At sunset it was nice to walk back to the car and take some pictures in the advancing twilight.

Vasquez rocks. It was a fun climb to the top of the rock in this picture.

Interesting rock formation, don't you thing so?

Oh yes, and one more thing... I met a nice furry little animal just before I reached my car. Can you see him?? He has such big ears.

Wild animal seen at Vasquez Rocks. Could this be the famed Jackelope?
